Open Potrang Lake to pilgrims: AVP

From Our Correspondent

Itagar, Feb 17: The Taksing unit of Aruchal Vikash Parishad (AVP) under Upper Subansiri district has appealed to the state government to open the Potrang (Pur ang Yamju) Lake near the Indo-Chi border in the district for pilgrims and general visitors.

“Before the Chinese aggression in 1962, the lake, located in Tsari-Neeh area near the border line was open for pilgrimage and thousands of pilgrims from around the world would visit it, considering it is one of the holiest places for Buddhists,” the AVP unit said.

It further said that opening of the lake for pilgrims would not only promote adventure tourism and cultural heritage, but also generate employment opportunities for the people of this region. It is a 10-hour journey on foot from Taksing circle headquarters to reach Potrang Lake, it added.
