Overnight missing incident creates uproar in Nagaon, Police resorted to lathi charge

Nagaon: In a shocking incident, few unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked the residence of a widow on Friday evening at Morangiyal area under Nagaon District destroying properties worth several lakhs of rupees.

The situation got intensified after the alleged miscreants created a hype stating that one Abdul Siddique was murdered by the family members of the widow (identity has been kept hidden).

As per sources, Abdul Siddique is a resident of Juria’s Kaliadinga area was reported missing since February 6 last.

Reports also claimed the missing person was having an alleged illicit affair with the widow.

As per eyewitnesses’ family members of the missing person had perceived the clothes and shoes of the missing person Abdul and accordingly lodged a complaint at the Nagaon police station claiming his presence in the residence of the widow.

Following the complaint, Nagaon Police interrogated the widow and also launched an operation in the residence of the widow, but found nothing as such.

It may be mentioned that during the evening hours on Friday, miscreants allegedly attacked at the residence of the widow. The miscreants accusing the family members of the widow as the murderer of Abdul ransacked the residence destroying several other valuables inside the premises. They also burned down the car of the father-in-law of the widow.

The police report claimed that these alleged miscreants had over hyped about the missing incident of the person Abdul Siddique to create a chaotic situation in the region. They further alleged the widow’s family was involved in killing Abdul who has been missing since Wednesday.

Speaking in connection to the matter, Nagaon Superintendent of Police, Sankarbrata Rai Medhi stated the matter to be an unfortunate incident. He also claimed that a section of people had overhyped misinformation.“The mob also attacked on our police officials with machete, iron rods injuring few of our officers. They also pelted stones on the police personnel. A suo-muto case has been taken in this regard,” said SP Medhi.

The police under the aegis of senior police officials resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd, informed SP Medhi.

SP Medhi also informed the media that the police we will look into both cases very cautiously.

It may be mentioned that the police after looking into the situation ensured security in the area.

Meanwhile, Nagaon police apprehended four people in connection with the incident. The four people were identified as Saidul Islam, Jalimat Islam, Hiyar Hussain, Hidayat Ullah.

Furthermore, the main culprit identified as Kamruz Zaman and Salim aka Sundari are absconding.

Meanwhile, two cases have been lodged by the family members of the widow against the miscreants.
