Own Assessment Gives BJP 10 Seats, None To Its Allies: BJP Assam Pradesh

GUWAHATI: According to its own assessment, the BJP Assam Pradesh has said that it will win 10 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the State. The party has further said that none of its allies – the AGP and the BPF – will win any seat.

The party made such a statement on Sunday after receiving reports from its 25,500 booth committees spread all over the State. The party, which leads the coalition at Dispur, further said that had the seats contested by the AGP and BPF been fought in BJP’s symbol the situation would have been different.

Talking to the media in Guwahati on Sunday, party president Ranjt Kumar Dass said: “Our win in Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency is certain. We’re expecting 4,95,000 of the 10,58,088 votes cast in the constituency. In Silchar we are expecting 4,65,000 of the 9,45,834 votes polled. We are certain to win this seat. In Diphu we are set to get 4 lakh of the 6,15,944 votes polled. We’re set to win the Guwahati seat with around 10.15 lakh votes out of 17,60,511 votes polled in the constituency. In Mangaldoi 15,00,908 votes were polled, and we are expecting 7.65 lakh of them. In Tezpur we expect to get 6.7 lakh of the 11,83,033 votes polled. In Nagaon we expect 7.7 lakh out of 14,89,543 votes polled. In Jorhat we expect 5.85 lakh votes. The total number of votes polled in the constituency is 10,54,124. We expect 6,30,500 votes in Dibrugarh where 10,13,821 votes were polled. In Lakhimpur we are sure to get 7.6 lakh votes. The total votes polled in the constituency is 12,79,119.”

Dass, however, was not optimistic on the poll prospects of BJP’s allies in the State – the AGP and the BPF. While the AGP fielded its candidates in Kaliabor, Barpeta and Dhubri seats, the BPF fielded its candidate in Kokrajhar. “In Kaliabor, the AGP may get around 6.60 lakh of the 14,21,500 votes cast. With the AIUDF not fielding its candidate there, the Congress may retain the seat,” Das said.

On Barpeta constituency, the State BJP president said: “Our ally AGP may get 5.45 lakh votes out of 14,52,213 votes polled. If the AIUDF candidate gets 2-2.5 lakh votes, the AGP candidate may have the last laugh. In Dhubri the AGP may get 4.75 lakh of the 16,82,711 votes polled. In Kokrajhar, the BPF candidate may get 4.7 lakh of the 14,68,112 votes polled.”

Dass said that in the 2014 Lok Sabha election his party got 7 seats, besides holding the lead position in 60 Assembly segments. “That was reflected in the 2016 Assembly election,” he said, and added: “If win ten seats this time, our coming to power 2021 in the State is certain.”
