GUWAHATI, Feb 2: BJP legislator Padma Hazarika today alleged anomalies in the implementation of sanitation scheme by Public Health Engineering (PHE) department during previous Congress government. Taking part in a debate in the Assembly today, Hazarika alleged that massive anomalies took place in the construction of toilets under the sanitation scheme.

He said that government sanctioned Rs 12,000 for construction of each latrine but an amount of Rs 1700 was deducted from each beneficiary for purchasing certain construction materials centrally. “But after the new government taking charge, we have purchased such materials at Rs 700. This is how, huge amount of money have been embezzled in the implementation of the scheme,” Hazarika alleged. The Sootia MLA alleged that the previous government barring declaring probe into scam, did nothing to curb corruption.

“Previous Congress government instead of taking action had rewarded many corrupt people. Former MLA Rumi th was sent to jail on charges of her involvement in car lifting case, but later she was given the post of parliamentary secretary,” Hazarika added.
