Panchayat Polls: Ex-BSF Jawan shot by Police Personnel in Golaghat

Golaghat: An Ex-BSF Jawan allegedly injured at least four people with a Machete in Golaghat’s 1 No Habiyal Village of Ganakpukhuri polling station on Wednesday morning.

The ex-BSF jawan identified as Gyanendra Rajkhowa was reported mentally unstable.

Speaking to the media, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Partha Pratim Saikia informed that the ex-BSF Jawan Rajkhowa chased the on-duty police personnel at the polling station with the machete.

The police personnel resorted to blank fire in the air to scare the jawan, but shot him in his leg later as he was irresistible, stated DSP.

DSP Partha Pratim Saikia further stated that they tried to bring him under control, but failed in the first attempt. “We tried to scare him by blank firing, but he chased us with the machetes. Later, he was shot on his leg,” said ASP.

He was admitted to Golaghat’s Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital for better treatment.

Update: Ex-BSF Jawan Gyanendra Rajkhowa died due to bullet injuries.
