Itanagar, May 29: The 15-member Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and Rajya Sabha MP Sambhaji Chatrapati arrived at Tawang on Monday, on a two-day visit to the border district to study the Sino-India relations including present security situation along the LAC.

The committee, while interacting with the army officers and troops at the Maratha Ground Army camp, appreciated the Indian Army's multifarious contribution in nation building, while maintaining the sanctity of LAC with China even in the most treacherous terrain and weather conditions.

The camp was established in the year 1983 by troops of Maratha Light Regiment of the Army.

Tharoor and Sambhaji Chatrapati paid homage to the great Marathi warrior Chatrapati Shivaji by paying floral tributes on behalf of the committee.

The GoC assured of the Indian Army's professionalism and firm resolve to guard nation’s territorial integrity.

Having witnessed the operational preparedness and high morale of the troops, the committee was convinced that the Indian Army is ready to respond to any contingency along the border with a mightier force. The committee also paid homage at the Tawang War Memorial to honour 2420 martyrs of the 1962 Indo-Sino War, and visited the Tawang Monastery and Dorjee Khandu Museum during their stay in Tawang, the communiqué added.
