Paschim Ambicapur Durga Puja Committee to celebrate golden jubilee

Silchar, Sept 27: To mark the 50th year of Paschim Ambicapur Durga Puja Committee, a host of new attractions and cultural programmes will be held at Durga Shankar Paathshala, Ambicapatty of this town. The idol, pandal, lighting and design of their Puja will be special. This has been informed at a press meet held today at the office of the Committee at Ambicapatty. The idol of Goddess Durga will be made of paper which comprises pages of newspapers, books and copies. LED lighting will be used in a unique way. For the first time, women drummers will be used here. The idol, as informed, will be of 14 feet and placed on a huge lotus flower.

 To make this year’s Puja more attractive, the committee has decided to have a fountain for fun and frolic. It has been informed that Disneyland will be constructed to attract children. Since water kingdom is an indispensable part of the Disneyland, members of the committee decided to make a water fountain. The hall will be a replica of South Indian halls.

 “Cultural programme will start from the day of Mahalaya, which falls on September 30. We will begin songs of Prabhat Feri at 5.30am on that auspicious day. We have invited Manipuri band and Dhamail artistes for our two-day Agomoni function which will be celebrated on September 30 and October 1 from 5.30 in the evening, said,” Moushomi Saha, cultural secretary of the committee. She also said that very special and attractive programmes will be dished out on the iugural function, especially Mahisasura Mordini. The iugural function will be graced by Dilip Kumar Paul, Deputy Speaker, Assam Assembly. He along with 50 children will light the auspicious lamp and another 50 women will welcome the Goddess.

 Moushomi Saha further said that there will be aroti and conch playing competition for men and women respectively. “We are not going to immerse the idol of our committee on the day of Bishorjon but on the nest day. This time Goddess Durga will not go on a truck. But the male members of our committee will carry the idol on their shoulders and take it for immersion,” Saha added to say. Speaking about security, maintence of discipline and other related matters, Bi Paul, advisor, said, “CCTV camera will be installed. Proper security and sufficient number of police personnel will also be there to ward off any unpleasant incident. Silchar Municipal Board has also extended its helping hand.”

 It is to be noted that last year, Paschim Ambicapur Durga Puja Committee won the prize of Rs.5000 for cleanliness which was given by the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar. Among others present at the press meet included, Shubhrendu Shekar Dutta, president and Sutopa Choudhury, member of the committee.
