Passing The Buck on People Won't Solve Problem: Atul Bora

GUWAHATI: Dispur MLA Atul Bora has written to the Chief Justice of India that extension of time is not going to solve the problem of inclusion of names of foreigners in the NRC. The BJP MLA has told the Chief Justice that unless and until the responsibility of detecting inclusion of illegal foreigners is taken by the NRC officials, instead of passing the buck on the people of the State, the problem is not going to be over.

Addressing the media in Guwahati on Thursday, Bora said that he has dashed a letter to the Chief Justice of India on the problem of inclusion of 'lakhs of illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh entering their names in NRC with the help of forged documents through fraudulent means. The NRC authorities must remove the names of these illegal infiltrators from the NRC and new names of foreign infiltrators are not to be allowed for inclusion'. Bora said that the need of the hour is to strengthen and revamp the NRC machinery for proper verification of all documents submitted by illegal foreign infiltrators for inclusion of their names in NRC and take necessary action to exclude them. "The responsibility shouldn't be pushed to the people. I don't believe that extension of time even by a year will solve the problem if the responsibility is left to the people," he said.

Bora said in his letter to the Chief Justice of India: "For the verification process, the NRC seva kendras should be revamped in those areas where a large number of infiltrators were able to enter their names in the NRC and all document should be thoroughly verified. The names included on the basis of forged documents should be immediately excluded from the NRC."

Bora further said that all suspected officials engaged on NRC duty should be terminated from the job so as to make the NRC update a smooth and transparent affair.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of India on Wednesday extended the last date for claims and objections by 15 days up to December 30, 2018.
