Tezpur: After a controversial comment on Assam and Assamese people by the senior vice-president of Patanjali Ayurved Limited appeared in the New York Times on July 26, a press meet was held at the office of the Sonitpur Journalists’ Union on Monday to tender an apology for the comment.

Addressing the press meet, Dr SB Singh, Senior Vice-President (Projects, Technology) of Patanjali Ayurved Limited IGC at Ghoramari, around 20 km from Tezpur town in Sonitpur district, said that the company regretted if the comment had hurt the sentiments of the Assamese people.

Singh further said that they would not allow non-vegetarian food in their campus. “We promote vegetarian food for better health,” he said. He added that Patanjali was committed to employ local people. “We are conditioning them mentally for work because they have no industrial work experience and we have several programmes for such training,” he added.
