SHILLONG: A day after NEIGRIHMS Resident Doctors’ Association (NRDA) called for an indefinite shutdown of services, except for emergency services, Dr Lakshmi Prasad, Associate Professor, Hospital Administration, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, informed that the patient care services and academic activities of the institute went on smoothly on Thursday.

It may be mentioned that the NRDA called for the shutdown of services, which was to start on Thursday following the “failure” of the administration to address the grievances faced by the resident doctors.

In this connection, Dr Lakshmi Prasad in a statement said that the situation was reviewed in a meeting chaired by Prof Vandana Raphael, the Director in-charge, with the participation of the Dean, Medical Superintendent, warden and all the HoDs.

Dr Lakshmi said that the HoDs were requested to advice the resident doctors in their respective departments to ensure that patient care services are not affected. The attendance of the Resident Doctors in majority of the departments was good.

The Associate Professor further informed that as a part of outreach services, a health camp and an educative talk on menstural hygiene in collaboration with Lady Keane College, was organized as part of ‘Swachhata Pakhwada,’ as per schedule.
