Paul quits as Deputy Speaker

GUWAHATI, May 8: BJP MLA from Silchar Dilip Kumar Paul has resigned as the Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, all of a sudden.

The MLA first let his resignation known in the social media, and then confirmed it in New Delhi while talking to the media on Tuesday.

The exact reason behind the resignation is not known. However, his post in the social media does make some fizzing sound heavily laden with his suffocative feeling while holding the highly regal post. An English rendering of what he wrote in the social media in Bengali is something like – ‘in the past 23 months and six days I’ve just been suffocating. I did tell the Chief Minister my problem with the highly regal (dignified) post, verbally and in writing, many a time...Now I feel relieved…’

Talking to the media later in New Delhi in the day, Paul said: “The job of the Deputy Speaker is something like that of a clerk. I felt suffocated with the post that didn’t allow me to work for my LAC. Now I can work full-time for my LAC. I’ve no regret. I’ve already informed party’s national president Amit Shah of my resignation.”
