Pay anomaly: Primary teachers cry foul

GUWAHATI, June 6: Crying out against the deprivation made to the primary teachers in the name of correcting the pay anomalies of the 7th Assam Pay and Productivity Pay Commission as recommended by the Pay Anomaly Committee, around 40,000 primary teachers from across the have staged a protest wearing black badges on June 6.

The Asom Rajyik Prathamik Sikshak Sanmilani president Jibon Bora and secretary Ratul Chandra Goswami alleged that the Pay Anomaly Committee is conspiring to divide the primary teachers of the state. The duo argued that while the recruitment procedure and the training provided to the primary teachers are same and has also been followed by the 4th, 5th, 6th and the 7th Pay Commission, there is no point of introducing a fresh anomalous pay structure. The Sanmilani further alleged that the new Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya is not keen to discuss the issue with the agitating teachers despite that the Sanmilani has tried several times to fix an appointment to resolve the incongruity through dialogue. Contrary, the Minister dictated the primary teachers to stage protest by availing leave.
