PDF projects Syiem as CM nominee

 From a reporter

SHILLONG, Feb 9: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF), while releasing its manifesto on Friday, projected its chairman and KHADC CEM PN Syiem as the party’s chief ministerial candidate.
The party, at a meeting held in the city, is optimistic of winning around ten seats from the 60 Assembly seats in the State in the forthcoming MLA elections scheduled to be held on February 27.
Speaking to reporters, PDF leader PN Syiem said: “We are confident and hopeful of winning in ten constituencies.”
The party, which was formed in March last year, has fielded 22 candidates out of the 36 constituencies in the Khasi-Jaintia Hill region.
Syiem said the party will support non-Congress political parties to form the next government in the State. “However, the post-poll alliance will only be decided after the election results,” he added.
Denying any links with the Bharitiya Jata Party (BJP) and NDA ally tiol People’s Party (NPP), the PDF leader said the party is neither supporting the BJP nor the NPP.
On the other hand, the ruling Congress has alleged that all regiol political parties in the State are working with the BJP.
Reacting to the statement made by the Congress, Syiem said the reasons for the PDF not contesting in some of the constituencies are lack of candidates and chances of party not winning in some seats.
