Peace meeting held in Kakopathar

TINSUKIA, Sept 2: In a mob violence at Kakopather in Tinsukia district on Thursday night as many as three police vehicles including a surveillance camera vehicle were damaged and two senior police officers taken hostage when a police team led by DSP Supratik Lal Baruah and OC Kakopather Chandan Raut were patrolling in Kakopathar Majbhorali following an outbreak of a rumour that some suspicious people had been moving in the area. The mob attacked the police vehicles and confined the police officers in mid field till wee hours today.

Following the incident a peace-cum-awareness meeting was held at Borali ME School play field on Friday afternoon where a large number of people from the locality attended the meeting. Chaired by Mantu Chetia, a student leader, the meeting was addressed among others by Bolin Chetia, MLA of Sadiya, ADC yan Jyoti Bhagwati, ADC Sushanta Dutta and Lamhao Doungel Additol SP (Hq).

The speakers called upon the public not to react on burgeoning rumours and requested them not to take law in their own hand. They must observe restrain enough to harm innocent people even if they are from outside who may not know local language. They even warned those anti-social elements who are spreading rumours at the cost of public peace and harmony.
