In the FIR, Gogoi alleged that Abdul Hann of ‘maging’ topmost police officials along with government officials successfully run an illegal supari syndicate in the State without paying government taxes. Further, he alleged that senior police officers, transport officials and sales tax officers had an unholy nexus with the supari mafia.
The illegal carrying of supari from Myanmar and Indonesia to Assam had been controlled and the syndicate was being run from Golaghat and Barak Valley of the State, Gogoi alleged. He also said that there were treaties between Myanmar and India that only 62 items would be allowed for transport and import but supari was not among the 62 items. By violating various laws, including the treaties between India and Myanmar (Burma), the mafia were running the illegal supari syndicate due to the government was losing out on revenue.
