Pengree ambush: ULFA claims responsibility

DIGBOI, Nov 20: The ULFA (I) C-in C on Sunday claimed responsibility for the attack on a security convoy belonging to the 15 Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army at Pengree in Tinsukia district on Saturday, in which three soldiers were killed.

In a statement issued to media, the ULFA (I) said the attack was carried out by the outfit in association with 4 other militant outfits of Manipur.

Meanwhile, security units belonging to the Indian Army are carrying out counter-insurgency operations in the vulnerable belts covering Tarani, Talpather, Ratonipother, Mulukgaon and Mungongpother areas of the district.  Fresh firing was reported this morning in the reserved forest, indicating that members of the banned outfits were still confined within the forest.

Meanwhile, an effective plan of action was drawn up by the Unified Command during a meeting at the office of the Tinsukia Superintendent of Police, attended by top officials of the Army and Assam Police.
