People-police clash in Gurgaon: 21 arrested

Gurgaon, May 16: Twenty one people, including Gurgaon councillor Nisha Singh, were arrested on charges of attempt to murder government officials on duty and rioting while authorities took possession of hundreds of houses in a colony that came up on panchayat land, said police Saturday.

Nisha Singh is councillor from ward 30.

All the accused have been arrested under various sections of the Indian Pel Code.

Senior Congress leaders Pradeep Jaildar, Khazan Singh Advocate, Pradeep Kashyap, Mohan Singh, Krishanpal, Kanwarpal, Ramkishan and nearly 200 unidentified people have been booked.

Nearly three dozen people, including women and children and some policemen, were on Friday injured in clashes when authorities forcibly took possession of hundreds of houses in Dokhar Ki Dhani village in sector 47 here.

The people were opposing the government move to take possession of the houses built over more than 13 acres of land in a colony Dokhar Ki Dhani.

Dokhar Ki Dhani that sprang up on panchayat land of Fatehpur Jharsa village, was acquired by the Harya Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in 2005.

But to oppose the acquisition, the gram panchayat and the then sarpanch did not claim the compensation released by the Harya government. Later in 2008, the area came under the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), and local body officials (MCG) accepted the compensation. HUDA officially became the owner of the land.  HUDA officials had demolished nearly 200 houses on April 15 amid protests and on Friday took possession of the disputed land. (IANS)
