People To Bid Farewell to BJP in 2019: Ripun Bora

GUWAHATI: Assam Congress president Ripun Bora on Monday said the people have already made up their minds to bid a farewell to the ruling BJP in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan on Monday Bora said that the heavy turnout in the just concluded Panchayat polls in the State is evidence of such mindset of the people. He said the people have compared the BJP’s present regime and the Congress’s previous regime.

“The people have realized that the Congress used to work for the common people. But the BJP works only for the capitalists. The voters will teach a lesson to the BJP in the next year’s general elections,” Bora said adding that the Congress would be able to capture power in 25 out of 26 Zila Parishads where Panchayat polls held on December 5 & 9. Demanding a high-level inquiry into alleged encroachment of land of the Water Resource department at Basistha in the city by the State BJP, Bora alleged that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has tacit support to such development. Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia who was also present at the press conference said the particular land at Basistha was purchased by the Water Resource department from a patta holder. But the BJP with the help of an approval by the State Cabinet grabbed the plot which is a gross violation of the Revenue Act at a time when CM himself is holding the revenue portfolio, Saikia said. He demanded a judicial inquiry into the development.
