From our Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, April 5: Massive poll campaign for BJP candidates is going on in the BTC region with promises of ensuring peace, security and development. Many star campaigners of BJP are camping in Kokrajhar, urging voters to cast their votes in favour of BJP candidates to bring a change in the region. Though the BJP had little ground in the BTC region, this time the party is getting tremendous support from the people who desire change.

Addressing a huge public gathering at Saraibil on Sunday, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram said the BJP would ensure security of people, peace and development of the region if voted to power. He said leaders of different political parties were only showing off but do not work for the people. The BJP was the only party that fulfilled its commitments, he said adding that the party would work for all-round development of BTC areas. He also said the rendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre would release fund directly to BTC for effective development of the backward region if voted to power.

Oram said people of BTC region were not free from fear psychosis due to lack of security. He said people would be free from fear if BJP came to power and the BJP led government at the Centre has cracked down upon militant outfits that used to create social tension. Till peace was established in the BTC region, the forces deployed in the counter insurgency operation would not be withdrawn, he said.  The Union Minister also said that he was examining norms for inclusion of six communities of Assam in the ST list.

BJP candidate of Saraibil Sibth Brahma said the BJP would work for the people of all communities. He said most of the BPL families were denied IAY houses, job and other benefits. He also said he would try to improve health centres, power supply, basic infrastructure and ensure 33 per ccent women reservation and IAY houses for needy people in Saraibil constituency. He further said that 12 VCDCs under Saraibil constituency would be increased to 25 to deliver better service to people.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, Sarbanda Sonowal while attending the public meeting for BJP candidates-Monoj Kr. Brahma of Bargaon and Samarendra Brahma of Debargaon at Patgaon on Sunday said the lack of security in BTC region made people displaced in their own soil and the Congress government was responsible for interl displacement. He alleged that the Congress never wanted unity and integrity among the people and always played divide-and-rule politics. He said massive corruption in BTC had pushed the council backward.

Sonowal said the indigenous people of the State should be united against illegal influx from Bangladesh. He said illegal Bangladeshis settlers were flooding the BTC region and posing serious threat.  He also attended BJP meeting at Bhaoraguri under Gossaigaon subdivision on the same day.

On the other hand, PCDR candidate Jiron Basumatary, who was former general secretary of the ABSU, attended an election campaign meeting at Barjabil in Jomduar constituency. He has been receiving tremendous public support.
