Pest attack on betel nut

SHILLONG, Feb 1: Pests have attacked betel nut plantations in Elaka Sohbar under East Khasi Hills district. According to farmers, they found that at one particular place – Kjat Shnong village, Sohbar, the pests attacked the betel nut plantations destroying the whole yield. “The attack of pests is so rapid that they ate all the leaves of the betel nut leaving the plant to die slowly,” the Seng Samla Sohbar said today. “There is every possibility that these pests may multiply and spread to the nearby betel nut groves and attack the plantation,” the youth organization added. Meanwhile, the Seng Samla Sohbar has urged the state government to investigate into the pest attack and help elimite the mece.
