PHC sans doctor, MDC Syiem takes up issue

SHILLONG, April 3: Local MDC of Sohryngkham constituency, Pyniaid Sing Syiem on Tuesday inspected the Diengpasoh Primary Health Centre (PHC) East Khasi Hills district.

During the inspection it was found that the PHC has been functioning for the past one month without any doctor, adversely affecting the working of the primary health centre.

Speaking to The Sentinel after interacting with some of the staff at the health centre, Syiem said, “With the absence of doctors, a plenty of problems have been caused for the local residents of the area, especially during time of emergency and this matter has to be taken up with the government.”

Syiem informed that he will also write a letter to the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to apprise him on the present situation of the PHC and the need to immediately appoint doctors at the centre.

He informed that during his interaction with some of the staff of the centre it was learned that there use to be two doctors at the PHC.

Meanwhile, the MDC also pointed out that there is a need for creating additiol staff quarters at the PHC. In this connection, Syiem said that this issue will also be taken up with the Meghalaya Chief Minister.
