Dibrugarh: A press meet was held under the aegis of Citizen Forum for Development to discuss various issues related to the beautification and development of the town on Tuesday.

In the meeting, the members signed a memorandum and sent it to the Chief Minister, urging him to take immediate measures. Three of the most important demands raised in the memorandum included resuming the long-pending work on the Dibrugarh Town Protection Drain that was started in 2014 with the aid of the Asian Development Bank but left in a limbo soon after, declaring Dibrugarh a city and turning it into a place marked with all the state-of-the-art facilities, and upgrading the historical and age-old establishments of the town like the Dibrugarh Town Railway Station, Assam Medical College and Hospitals, and Dibrugarh University.

The signatories to the memorandum included former chairman of Dibrugarh Municipality Board, Dr. Kaminiranjan Baruah; politician Sunil Rajkonwar; president of Dibrugarh Bar Association, Ajit Borgohain; senior journalist Ikbal Ahmed; former president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Padmashree Prahlad Tasa; social activist and former Professor of Dibru College, Dr. Runuma Sharma and social activists Kukhal Konwar, Paragjyoti Baruah and Poran Bokul Baruah.

Some of the members, during the meeting, also highlighted few aspects like rise in the crime rate on the outskirts of the town and the non-functioning of the once-popular forum called ‘Police-Public Participation’ that was used for exchanging views and forging solutions to pressing issues at hand.
