PM Modi awarded with Seoul Peace Prize

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded with Seoul Peace Prize 2018 during his visit to South Korea. Modi who is on a two-day visit to South Korea has received the award and is the 14th recipient of the prize and the first Indian to have been conferred the prestigious award.

The award consisted of a plaque and an honorarium cash prize for his contribution to high economic growth in India and the world through Modinomics.

Modi's dedication to improving international cooperation, raising global economic growth, accelerating the human development of the people of India by fostering economic growth in the world's fastest growing large economy and furthering the development of democracy through anti-corruption and social integration efforts has made him to receive the award which was recognized by the selection committee.

PM Modi has also been credited for his contribution towards regional and global peace through a proactive foreign policy with countries around the world under the Modi Doctrine and the Act East Policy.

Receiving the award, PM Modi said that he is honoured to be awarded the Seoul Peace Prize. "I believe that this award not only belongs to me personally but also to the people of India. The award belongs to the success India has seen in less than five years," he said.

He said that he is more honoured that the award has been given on the 150th year of Mahatma Gandhi's birth which makes it even more special to receive the award.

He further added, "Since 1988, the world has changed vastly and global poverty which is one of them has been declined significantly. But the challenges today are quite different too. The world is facing two greatest threats of climate change and terrorism."

The Seoul Peace Prize is awarded in commemoration of the success of the 24th Olympic Games held in Seoul in 1990. It has its genesis in the Korean people's yearning for peace in the Korean peninsula.

The prize is awarded biennially to those individuals who have made their mark through contributions to the harmony of mankind, reconciliation between nations and to world peace.
