PM Modi refers Election of India as 'Kumbh of Democracy'

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the elections as the 'Kumbh of Democracy' while addressing the representatives from 190 countries at the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in the nation's capital. He said that the world must come and see how elections in India take place.

Addressing the representatives, he said that the upcoming elections more than 800 million people will vote and democratically elect a government.

The PM have asked the Election Commission to invite all the countries to come for election tourism saying that the electoral mechanism of India is the biggest in the world and also asked the people of the world to come and see how India votes.

He further said, "People should come and see how democracy runs in the blood of Indians and how the Indians even villagers participate in the electoral process. The villagers feel as their responsibility and understand what is happening in the country and votes accordingly."

The PM also said that the electoral process of India could inspire the world adding it has a wonder in itself.

He also stated that the democratic participation of people in the elections is an inspiration for people who believe in democracy and also asked the people to imagine that if the government could organize Kumbh on such a large scale then how huge the arrangements for elections could have been.

The Prime Minister also asked the election commission and external affairs ministry to invite universities, students, democrats to come and see the Kumbh of Democracy so that they could be inspired by it.

The delegates from 190 countries have participated in the Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations has organized a special event at Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra.

After an interaction with the delegates, the PM said that until one actually visits the Kumbh Mela, one cannot appreciate the historic event and said that the tradition has been continued for thousands of years uninterruptedly. "The Kumbh is as much about a social reform as it is about spiritually and that the event has been a forum for discussion among spiritual leaders and social reformers to chart a roadmap for the future and monitor progress.
