Haflong: “Poetry is not just another form of literature that speaks about nature, love and beauty. Poetry can also play a major role in bringing people closer and spread the good news about one place or community among people of other places and communities,” said Kulendra Daulagupu, Executive Member, Tourism, on Wednesday.

Releasing a collection of poems titled In Love with Jatinga written by noted poet and author Dr Tapati Baruah Kashyap at a solemn function held at the Circuit House conference hall here, Daulagupu also described poetry as a very strong form of communication that leaves an indelible impression in the minds of readers.

“Poetry is a very strong form of mass communication. Good poetry makes such an impression in one’s mind that one continues to remember such poems all throughout life. Poetry also creates beautiful images in the minds of readers, apart from sharpening the imaginative capability of readers,” he said.

Daulagupu congratulated Dr Kashyap for bringing out the collection of 50 poems that describe her experiences while visiting different places of Dima Hasao district and said that these poems would carry a positive image of the once strife-torn district to different parts of the world. “Since the book is also available online in both print and digital version, it will definitely carry the beautiful images of the picturesque hill district to distant places. This, in turn, will also help attract tourists to Haflong, Jatinga, and other places in Dima Hasao,” he said.

Speaking about the book, Dr Kashyap said that the different images of simple and colourful people living amid nature on the lap of the Barail mountain would definitely inspire every poet to record the images through poems. “Through these poems, I have tried to capture the captivating beauty, not just of the hills and valleys and rivers and flowers in Dima Hasao, but I have also tried to tell the whole world that there is one place on earth that one should visit to experience lasting peace of mind,” she said.

Presided over by noted litterateur Surjya Thaosen, the function was also addressed by Dima Hasao Superintendent of Police Prasanta Saikia, noted educationist and social worker Evelyntice Sajem among others.
