Police constable involved in killing of colleague flees to galand

SIVASAGAR, September 4: Colleagues in uniform killing their colleagues — has not been as common in the police force as in the armed forces where growing frustration and work pressure have often resulted in jawans killing officers or colleagues murdering their peers.

In one such sensatiol case, a personnel of 25 No. Battalion of Assam Police, deployed at Deopani under zira Police Station in Sivasagar district bordering galand gunned down one of his colleagues inside the camp before fleeing with his service rifle on Wednesday.

According to police sources, the incident occurred at 762 No. Godown of ONGC near Deopani Tea Garden, where a 7-member team of 25 No. Assam Police Battalion was posted. “Following a quarrel, Prabin Chetia suddenly opened fire with his AK-47 service rifle killing one of his colleagues lini Medhi on the spot. The other five who tried to prevent Chetia from pulling the trigger somehow maged to flee from the site as he also fired some bullets to them,” said the sources adding that Chetia fled to galand side after committing the crime as the spot is close to Assam-galand border. It has also been reported that the deceased Medhi was hailed from Mirza in Kamrup district, while Chetia belonged to Lahan Gaon, Simaluguri in Sivasagar district.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot and recovered 11 nos. of blank cartridges from the spot. Meanwhile, a combing operation has been launched to b the killer cop who had fled to galand side with a bullet loaded AK-47 rifle. No arrest was made till filing of this report.
