Police cranks up probe into Victoria's death

SHILLONG, July 21: Police have arrested one Manbha Kumar Haijam Syiem from Shillong in connection with the mysterious death of Victoria Dayoun Kharkongor at Dispur Police Station.

The police stated that Syiem was arrested after a case under section 306 for abetment of suicide was registered against him by Dispur Police.

“Syiem was summoned on Monday to give his statement regarding the death of Victoria in front of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Crime branch, Guwahati, and was later arrested on the same day,” SP City Vivek Syiem told media persons here on Tuesday.

According to police Syiem and Victoria shared a close bonding while they were both working in the same School in Yinkiong at Aruchal Pradesh and that she was the one who helped him in getting the job in Yinkiong.

Vivek Syiem said that as per the information they have received on June 2015 Victoria was termited from her job by the school authority. Victoria later applied for a job in Sikandrabad along with Syiem.

He said that according to Syiem on reaching Sikandrabad they stayed in a hotel to meet a person who was going to give them a job at a school there but even after six days have passed they were uble to meet the person.

The Superintendent of Police (City) further said that Syiem allege that Victoria is a heavy drinker and that was the reason why her 12 year old daughter wanted to return to Shillong so she called her grandmother to pick her up from Sikandrabad and after the daughter was picked up Syiem and Victoria went their separate ways.

It needs to be mentioned that Victoria allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the toilet of Dispur police station on the night of July 5.
