Police curbs on drunk driving

SHILLONG, July 29: Concerned over the rise in incidents of drink and driving the East Khasi Hills police on July 25 last conducted “surprise checks” in various parts of the city and detected several cases of drunk driving and violation of “no entry”. According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Mariahom Kharkrang, forty such cases were detected. The drivers were detained and later released after payment of fine. An amount of Rs 22,100 was realized as fine. According to police incidents of drunk driving is high during the night especially on weekends.
