Police drive to curb unlawful activities continues

Itanagar, July 21: The Capital police, as part of its sustained effort to sensitize the local populace specially the youths in maintaining decency in public spaces on Friday conducted yet another checking drive in various parts of Capital Complex, right from Hollongi to Naharlaugn, Nirjuli and Banderdewa. SP Capital M Harsha Vardhan said that the police will not sit idle and will continue its drive against unruly youths indulging in illegal activities. He however, said that the first thing needed is sensitization and the police are duty bound to sensitize the youths about the ill effects of drugs, alcohol, etc and help maintain law and order so that everyone feels safe and secure. Talking about Friday's drive, the SP said multiple police teams headed by officers went out in to the field in the evening to areas like Gompa, IG Park, Chandranagar hanging bridge, Akashdeep market, Itafort, Bank Tinali, Polo Park Naharlagun, Naharlagun Market area, Karsingsa, Banderdewa etc to make the police presence felt and, in the process, they questioned persons loitering around suspiciously and also caught many youths consuming alcohol and creating unruly scenes in public spaces.

What differentiated Friday's drive from earlier ones was the scale of police involvement and simultaneous patrolling in several locations. More than 50 persons were detained during the exercise which lasted for more than two hours.

The SP said that this drive is a part of the effort to increase visible policing and control street crime around the time when it just gets dark. This will increase the sense of security among the residents.
