Police engage in cross-firing with NDFB cadres

Bongaigaon, June 27: On the basis of information about presence of four NDFB (S) cadres in the general area of Burijhar village under Police Station Runikhata, an operation was launched by Chirang Police on June 26 in and around the general area of Burijhar village. A police source said that in Khasibari area under Police Station Amguri, a group of NDFB (S) cadres opened fire on the police party. “Police party opened retaliatory fire in self-defence. Exchange of fire continued for some time. Once the firing was stopped, a search of the areas was conducted. During the search four back packs are found,” said the police source. Two HE 36 grenades have also been found in two bags. Unfortunately, the cadres managed to flee taking the advantage of terrain and forest. Follow up action is being taken, the source said.
