Police officer caught  red-handed accepting bribe

Rangia, June 30: Munin Dutta, officer in-charge of Kaurbaha outpost under Tamulpur Police Station of Baksa district, was caught red-handed by the Anti-corruption Bureau, Government of Assam, with another middleman on Friday night while he was taking bribe from one Anser Ali of village Bihapara.

According to Anser Ali, Police officer Dutta demanded Rs 1 lakh as bribe for accepting the bail papers from him. Rangia SDJM Court granted him bail for a case filed by one Rahman Ali of village Bihapara in the outpost against him. He went to the outpost for handing over the bail papers to the OC. But instead of accepting the bail papers the OC demanded Rs 1 lakh as bribe and received Rs 8,000 as advance.

Ali approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Government of Assam, and made a plan. On Friday night, when he went to the outpost for giving him Rs 6,000 as bribe as per instructions of the Anti-corruption Bureau, the officers of the Bureau caught Dutta red-handed. One Golam Nabi Azad was also arrested as middleman.

The Bureau produced them in the Kamrup District Session Court, Guwahati on Saturday and the court sent them to the Bureau custody for three days for further interrogation. The Bureau also conducted raid in the residents of both the accusedon Saturday.
