Police, politicians have nexus with coal mafia: Amita Sangma

SHILLONG: The colleague of Agnes Kharshing, Amita Sangma who was injured along with the former during the murderous attack on November 8th, last month in East Jaintia Hills at Sohshrieh has alleged that the politicians and the police department has a nexus with the coal mafia hence they are shying away from the demand of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Amita Sangma said, “The politicians are afraid to call the CBI for an inquiry because it will ultimately reveal the names of many high ranking officials and politicians of having a nexus with the coal mafia.” She also stated that this issue should not be turned into a political game hence Sangma stated that she has high hopes of receiving justice form the High Court of Meghalaya as a complaint has already been filed in the court.

“I have trust in the High Court because I cannot trust the state government as they are unwilling to call for a CBI probe into the incident so the question is why they are afraid if there is nothing behind the curtain,” Sangma said. She added, “From the very first day I have rejected the proposal of the government to constitute an independent inquire and I have no trust in the investigation being conducted by the police because they know where Nidamon Chullet is hiding however they are unable to arrest him till date as he is still absconding.”

According to her, the reason he is scot free right now is because Nidamon has bought many of the police officials so how they will arrest him hence she reiterated that there is a need for a CBI inquiry. She also questioned as to why the police have yet to seize the trucks belonging Nidamon till now.

When asked, Sangma said, “It’s almost one month now however the police have yet to trace his whereabouts so how will I trust the police because the police know where he is hiding but are afraid to arrest him.”

She also stated that people should know that if the state government does not take up this matter seriously then they will have no more faith in the government. “During election time they would come to our homes and request us to give them vote and the government is there because of the people hence the government should do something serious concerning this issue,” she said adding that despite demand for a CBI inquiry from the public the government is still silent on this.
