Police probe in girl's death

Shillong, February 17: Police have started investigation into the death of an 8-year old girl in the city, suspecting foul play. According to the family members, the girl, identified as Mawlai Kynton Massar, died after a trunk of a tree fell on her last Friday.  “We received information that there was some incident before the accident on February 13,” East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP), Mariahom Kharkrang said. The SP also said that the family members were not cooperating with the police.  According to Kharkrang, on the fateful day, the girl along with other children was playing in the area where there were some wood cutters. She died on the spot after a tree allegedly fell on her. The SP also said that the family members of the girl did not file any complaint on the incident and they asked for exemption from post mortem.  Kharkrang also said that if need be, the body of the girl will be exhumed to ascertain the exact cause of death.
