Policy Group for People’s Rights seeks to freeze Dibrugarh town's existing road levels

Dibrugarh: A delegation of Policy Group for People’s Rights (PGPR), Dibrugarh, led by its president Dr Aradhana Kataki, met the State PWD, Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 16 and submitted a petition wherein an appeal was made to freeze the existing road levels of Dibrugarh town in general and Dr Mahendra Bora Path of Jibon Phukan Nagar in particular as this area has been plagued by severe waterlogging for more than 10 years.

Pointing it out, PGPR president Dr Aradhana Kataky, in a press communiqué stated, “It is an internationally accepted fact that periodically raising road levels contribute to the problem of water logging in an area.” She conveyed to the minister the general sense of apprehension because authorities concerned in Dibrugarh appear to continue the unscientific and dangerous practice of raising road levels every time repair or improvement work of roads was undertaken.

Since the last 10 years, PGPR has been voicing its concern about this and urging the authorities concerned to stop the practice of raising existing road levels. PGPR has once again raised this matter with the current Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh and sought his intervention to prevent raising of existing road levels in Dibrugarh town in general and Dr Mahendra Bora Path in particular because this area is one of the worst affected by water logging every year.
