Policy should be on national interest: Arunachal Pradesh Governor

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) DR B D Mishra has suggested that to realize the goal of development of the nation, every plan, action and policy must be oriented towards national interest.

“It must be with a mantra of integrity, honesty, accountability, audit and midcourse correction. Along with it, there must be good diplomacy, strong preparedness, beneficial mutual business policies and contribution of technocrats and scientists,” he said while addressing a seminar on ‘Act East through Northeast: India’s way to a new era of Diplomacy’, at Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) here on Friday.

Stating that Indian diplomacy today is at its best since independence, the governor said, “under the political leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our approach today is ‘we matter’, which is important for the dignity of the nation and for the prestige and honour of every Indian,” a Raj Bhawan communiqué informed here on Saturday. Dr Mishra said that North East Region has great potential in hydropower, minerals, fertile land, pristine environment and abundant forest cover which is important for national security, nation resources and best human resource.

“Development of north east region is very important for the overall development, national defence, security and integrity of the nation. It has big area and sizable population,” he said.

He said, the eight states in the region have almost similar geography, demography, assets and challenges and they need to be considered as one entity.

Dr Mishra further emphasised that the development of the region must not be piecemeal but with an integrated approach, focused on ‘PHIRAN’, which stands for Power, Highways, Inland Waterways, Railways, Airway and electronic and communication Network.

He also stressed on peace, stability and good law and order environment, within the Region and also in the neighbouring countries, like Myanmar and Bangladesh in addition to maritime security along the sea route.

The governor complimented the Dera Natung Government College and Jadavpur Association of International Relations (JAIR) Kolkata, for organizing the two-day national seminar, the communiqué added. EOM
