Poll awareness drive intensified for the forthcoming parliamentary election

LAKHIMPUR: Due preparation for the smooth conduct of polling process in the forthcoming parliamentary election is underway in Dhakuakhona subdivision of Lakhimpur district. A total of 1,94,043 voters of the sub-division, which is mechanized as Dhakuakhona Election District for the electoral purpose, will cast their franchise in the ensuing election. In this regard, 256 polling booths have been established in the subdivision. This was declared by SDO Arindam Baruah in a press meet held on Sunday evening.

“Out of the total voters, 99,185 voters are male voters while 98,858 voters are women. A total of 4,872 voters within the age range of 18 and 19 years of the subdivision will cast their votes for the first time in the election to be held this year. On the other hand, 85 polling booths are identified as sensitive polling booths in the subdivision,” he further said in the press meet wherein Subdivisional Police Officer Mohanlal Mina, Dhakuakhona BDO Gopal Sarmah and Ghilamora BDO Krisnarjun Barman were present. A mock poll in EVM-VVPAT was also exhibited in the event in front of the media persons.

On the other hand, poll awareness drive has been intensified in the subdivision staging street plays, organizing public meetings and releasing songs to increase the polling percentage and to encourage the illiterate voters and Divyanga persons of the society to cast their franchise. Such an awareness drive under Aidew-2019 programme was organized in the rural area of the Kherkota Gaon Panchayat on Monday under the aegis of Dhakuakhona District Election Officer in collaboration with the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission. In the event, SDO Arindam Baruah, Nodal Officer Dipak Sarmah presented awareness lecture on EVM-VVPAT. Sector officer Preetam Singh, BPM Pabitra Doley, ASRLM Block co-ordinator also spoke on the occasion.
