Silchar, May 10: Adjacent areas of Vivekananda statue situated at Fulertal on NH 37 have been submerged under water. Poor drainage system and heavy rain that has been lashing Barak Valley for the last few days have lead to this deplorable situation. Water has entered into some of the houses of the residents. Since there is no drain, waist level filthy water has stagnated. Even a cremation ground has been submerged. MLA Rajdeep Goala who visited the spot on Sunday, took some concrete steps towards solving the matter. He called upon the in-charge AEE of NH department and AE of the same department Dhruvajyoti Dutta who also reached the spot immediately.

Rajdeep Goala said if steps are not taken, people would resort to mass agitations and movements in which he too would join in. Old road of Hmarkhawlien, Fulertal, and students of Union High School, PMS and Douglas Schools are unable to attend their classes. There are big potholes on the road. Soon, Lakhipur Municipal Board (LMB) brought a JCB to cut out a drain to solve the issue. Even if some amount of water subsided, the area got stagnated.  IPS S J Bora, LMB chairperson Sangeeta Gurum, ward commissioner Manna Ranjan Deb and Ravindra Singha and social workers Pintu Lal Roy and Manoj Koiri reached the spot. A bypass road is also there. Yet, the problem of water stagnation persists.
