Poor quality road annoys residents

AZARA, April 29: The poor quality of construction of the 3-km road between Garigaon sluice gate and Khanamukh, connecting NH-37 near Azara, is raising the public eyebrow. The residents of the area, while raising their concern on the issue, have alleged that Rs 2 crore allocated for the work has been misappropriated by the contractor leading to the road pitiably collapsing within the first month of the completion of construction.

Since the beginning, the contractor allegedly used poor quality inter-locking blocks, provoking the locals to intervene in between the progress of the work. Ignoring the grievances, the contractor hastened the work and maintained the same in erecting the guard wall too. Presently, the surface is breaking up creating spaces to hold water. Expressing anger and dismay over the expected durability of the road in the face of the advent of monsoon, the local residents of the area are demanding attention from the concern authority.

With special attention paid by the local MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita, the work was materialized under the supervision of the public work department (PWD), Guwahati division.
