GUWAHATI, June 12: The governing body meeting of the Sports Authority of Assam (SAA) was held at the Chief Minister’s conference hall in the city today where it was decided to create a post for mobilization of sports in the State. Apart from Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who also holds the portfolio of Sports and Youth Welfare, the meeting was attended by several top officials of the Sports Authority of Assam along with a few renowned sportspersons of the State like Bhogeswar Baruah and Tayabun Nesca, besides State Skill Development Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary.

Several issues, including modernization of the existing sports infrastructures, were placed at the meeting for discussion. The meeting also took the decision to appoint a person for mobilizing sports in the State. The person is supposed to coordinate with sportspersons and sports organizers of different districts and provide necessary suggestions to the government so that positive steps can be taken for the development of sports.

Meanwhile, in order to make football alluring for the young generation the State Sports Department is going to arrange special screening of forthcoming World Cup in big screen. In the early part of the World Cup the screening would be held in a few districts. However, the semi-finals and finals will be screened in all district headquarters in the State.

Meanwhile, as decided earlier the Chief Minister today directed the officials to start the construction work of the proposed 32 stadiums in different parts of the State soon. He also asked them to prepare a state sports calendar so that all sports competitions can be organized as per the schedule.
