Postal stamp released

JOYSAGAR, May 13: Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Jorhat Lok Sabha MP, formally released a unique postal stamp in Sivasagar on Saturday where bio-diversity of the district is reflected. In this postal stamp, the image of the famous ‘Bakhar Bengena Tree’ of Bokota under Lakwa Development Block has been printed. The Bakhor Bengena Tree is a unique species of tree in which a specific kind of fruit is produced. Historians as well as botanists reveal that the age of the tree might be around 170 years. Hundreds of people and tourists come to see the tree every year. Tasa, while speaking at a press meet on Saturday, also revealed that the BJP government at the Centre and the Sonowal government were serious about protecting this land and its people. The BJP would not take any decision which would affect the indigenous people of Assam, he said. MP Tasa was accompanied in his Sivasagar visit by Mahmora MLA Jogen Mohan and Thowra MLA Kushal Dowari.
