Posting Photos with Pakistan Flag on Social Media Might Land you in Jail, Assam Man Faces Wrath of Law

Morigaon: In a sensational incident, a 27 years old Muslim youth was arrested by Morigaon police for posting photographs with Pakistani flag ahead of the Independence Day on his Facebook profile.

The youth has been identified as Jeherul Islam of Bhurbandha village under Morigaon district.

Talking to The Sentinel Digital, Morigaon Superintendent of Police, Swapneel Deka said, “Indian Independence Day is particularly a very crucial time when there are a lot of anti-social elements who try to disrupt the communal harmony and humanitarian accord of the people. Especially, when there are on-going issues between the two countries, such seditious acts must be dealt strictly. Our cyber crime branch investigated into the matter and following that we had take precautionary measures.”

On being asked whether any traces of links with Islamic terrorist groups has been found in Jeherul Islam’s profile and online activities, SP Deka said, “We have conducted a thorough investigation and our cyber crime experts have left no stones unturned. But no such traces of being involved in Islamist terror groups have surfaced yet. He denied any such involvements and told that it was just an act of immaturity.”

It may be mentioned Jeherul uploaded a display picture on his Facebook profile with a photo frame that had a Pakistan flag and a slogan in Urdu which read 'meri pehchaan, Pakistan…
