Potable water being wasted in city

By our Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Feb 24: Thousands of litres of potable water is being wasted everyday in the Lakhtokia area in the city just for not connecting the pipes laid down by Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) with the ones laid down by GMC. This is despite the fact that hundreds of families in the city are crying for potable water. The local people had to lodge written complaints with GMC Commissioner many a time, but to little avail. Fed-up with the negligence on the part of the Corporation, Nekib Imam Saikia, a resident Tip-Top Gali, said: “The pipes were laid by the GMC some 35 years ago. They’re leaking now, allowing dirty water getting mixed with the water being supplied to us.”
