Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) Slams Directorate Of Secondary Education

GUWAHATI: The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) has said the Directorate of Secondary Education has received it. The PSSA has also demanded the government recruit persons with disabilities in all the 3,837 backlog posts in the Elementary Education instead of only 85 of them.

Addressing the media in Guwahati on Tuesday, PSSA general secretary Nripen Malakar said: “We’ve submitted an application to the Directorate of Secondary Education seeking information regarding appointment in the Directorate. A month has elapsed, but the Directorate is yet to let us know the information sought. If the Directorate doesn’t respond to our plea within a week, we’ll go for a vigorous agitation.”

Responding to such an application, the Directorate of Elementary Education, on the other hand, let the PSSA know: “The Directorate has a total of 1,09,507 employees under it. According to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 four per cent of the total posts should be reserved for persons with disabilities. However, at present, the directorate has only 543 employees with disabilities.”

Malakar said: “Going by this statistics, in the Directorate of Elementary Education alone there are as many as 3,837 posts for persons with disabilities. Strangely enough, in the recruitment for persons with disabilities in various departments being conducted by the State Level Police Recruitment Board that has been given the responsibility, only 85 posts have been shown in the Directorate of Elementary Education. This shows that the government is going to fill up only 85 of the 7,837 backlog posts for persons with disabilities now and silent on the remaining 3,752 backlog posts in the Directorate. We demand the government to fill up the remaining 3,752 backlog posts in the Directorate as well.” Malakar further said: “There are also anomalies in the age limits and priority criteria of persons with disabilities in the advertisement. We demand the government to rectify the anomalies.”
