Primary teachers stage dharna in Golaghat

GOLAGHAT, June 18: The Golaghat district Primary Teachers’ Association (GDPTA) staged a strong sit-in in front of the offices of the Deputy Inspector of Schools and Block Elementary Education in Golaghat on Monday demanding solution to various problems of teachers. The teachers raised various slogans against the government and the authority concerned for allegedly ignoring their demands. In Golaghat town more than 500 teachers locked the main door of the Block Elementary Education office and office of the Deputy Inspector of Schools and staged protest.

GDPTA secretary Jyoti Prosad Gogoi, Golaghat district committee secretary Chandradip Gogoi and president Abedur Rahman said that the government had been ignoring their demands since long. The GDPTA demanded Rs 8,700 for graduate headmaster under the 7th Pay Commission, holding the Chief Minister’s Special Scholarship Examination in December in every year, providing at least two copies of notebooks for every subject for evaluation to the students and engaging the contractual teachers of LP schools on permanent basis without imposing any terms and conditions. The GDPTA also threatened that unless the government fulfilled these demands, teachers would avoid official work.
