Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Tripura in February Next Year

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tripura in February next year to inaugurate several development projects, including an upgraded cancer centre. This was informed by The media adviser to State Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.

The media adviser to State Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb disclosed this while adding that a high-level meeting was convened on Monday to review progress in the cancer hospital project.

The regional cancer centre, which offers treatment to more than 2,000 patients annually, is set to have a new building and modern equipment.

According to government reports, 3,786 patients succumbed to cancer between 2013 and 2016 in the State.

The meeting held on Monday with the Chief Minister was attended by top bureaucrats along with officials of various departments.

According to Global Adult Tobacco Survey (2016-17), 40 per cent of all cancer patients in the north-eastern suffer from head and neck malignancy, mainly caused by tobacco consumption.

Tripura tops in tobacco use in the region with 64.5 per cent patients in the State suffering to nicotine consumption, according to the report.

The meeting held on Monday with the Chief Minister was attended by top bureaucrats along with officials of various departments.

Notably, State Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has left for New Delhi on Wednesday to meet the Prime Minister and discuss all the issues threadbare and also finalize Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to the State.
