Principal of missionary school in Assam arrested for trying to rape woman staffer

Nalbari: The principal of a missionary school at Panigaon in Nalbari district, in Assam was arrested for allegedly trying to rape a staffer in the campus on Monday, as police sources said.

The 20-year-old victim lodged an FIR and subsequently, a case was registered against the principal as stated by Officer-in-Charge of Belsor Police Station Dipul Boro.

The woman worked as a cook in the school. She in her complaint alleged that the principal entered her room in the school vicinity and suddenly attempted to rape her.

Boro further said that she somehow managed to escape this attempt and as soon as informed the nearby villagers about the incident. The villagers went furious about this shameful act and surrounded the school campus. The demanded his arrest before police timely rushed to the spot and arrested the culprit as Boro informed. The culprit was 50 years old and he is the principal of the school.

Rape is on the rise in Assam, only a few days back Assam Police have registered a case against the minister of state for Railways Rajen Gohain for allegedly raping and threatening a 24-year-old married woman at Nagaon district.

The punishment against rape accused has also become strict in India this year after the Kathua incident. In Assam also drastic changes has occurred in justice systems as a court in Assam’s Hojai district earlier this month awarded the death sentence to the prime accused in the rape and subsequent murder of a 58-year-old school teacher committed a year ago.
