Principals formally asked to remit poor students of fees

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 13: The Director of Higher Education, Assam has asked the principals of all government and provincialized colleges in the State not to charge any fees, including admission fees and tuition fees, from students of HS first year and TDC first year who hail from families that have an annual income less than Rs 1 lakh.

The Director issued a notification in this regard today.

The Director further asked the principals of the colleges to submit detailed account of the revenue loss they would have to incur for not charging any fees from poor students, to him for reimbursement. The notification made it clear that the principals should not include the revenue due to the government from tuition/admission fees in their detailed account for reimbursement.

It is worth mentioning here that State Governor PB Acharya and State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced the exemption of fees for poor students on June 11. While the Governor made the announcement through a notification, the minister made it in a press meet.
