Problem-ridden Binova Nagar

Problem-ridden Binova Nagar

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, June 19: All is not well at Ward No. 17 of Binova Nagar near Kalapahar as the locality is crippled with problems like poor drainage system, water logging on the yield and growth of summer, irregular water supply, poor street lights, and traffic congestion due to narrow roads, irregular garbage disposal and siltation caused by the nearby hills.

Talking to The Sentinel, a resident of the locality, Bijoy Baruah said that the road connecting to Binova Nagar is so slim that hardly two vehicles can somehow negotiate to take over. Since long, due to poor street lights, residents have to think twice to go out in the evening. Moreover, during summer, the entire stretch of the road remains water logged that restrains the commuters to walk on the road even on broad day light. Expressing anger on the poor services of the GMC, Baruah said that due to poor drainage system in the locality, there is no way to release the flood water. Moreover, during summer, the nearby hills also produce siltation for which the narrow road turns muddy causing hindrance to the regular movement. In contrary, responding to a question, the Ward councilor said that the traffic congestion is not within the purview of the GMC. However, planning is on for construction of drainage system, she said.
