Prohibitory orders in Sonitpur district

Tezpur, Oct 8: In a bid to maintain law and order in the district, the ADC of Sonitpur, KK Sarma issued a prohibitory order under Section 144 in Sonitpur district. Through the order, the district administration has prohibited bursting loud firecrackers between 10 pm and 6 am, in accordance with a judgment passed by the Supreme Court. Strict prohibition has been imposed on manufacturing, selling or bursting crackers that emit noise beyond 125 or 145 decibels. Further, it has also prohibited bursting crackers near hospitals, schools, court buildings, rrow streets, apartment blocks and traffic-dense areas within 100 meters. Further, selling in retail on the side of roads has also been banned. Taking into account the festival of Diwali, there are some prohibition orders issued against selling firecrackers in wholesale and retail, and to sell the firecrackers in retail, prior license must be obtained. These prohibition orders of Sonitpur district administration have been enforced throughout the district with immediate effect until further order.
