GUWAHATI: The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Assam Chapter, which is a non-profit organization, has undertaken two major projects in the state. Having successfully completed various projects with several state government collaborations, the projects are anticipated to bring success. At a press meet on Saturday, INTACH Assam Chapter Convernor, Professor Sheila Bora stated that the Dakhinpat Satra in Majuli, which is a storehouse of precious artifacts belonging to the medieval period in Assam, requires urgent steps to safeguard these antiquities.

To preserve the valuable cultural wealth of Assam, with a financial grant from INTACH, New Delhi, listing and documentation of several rare Satriya artifacts are in progress. In this regard, the organization has also urged the state government for a museum to store the valuable national wealth. Bora further stated that the second project undertaken by the Assam State Chapter is a project for safeguarding the manuscripts of the Dakhin Satra of Majuli, which has been sponsored by the Prince Claus Fund and the Whiting Foundation. The project is being executed in coordination with the National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM), Bhubaneshwar, Orissa.
